Don't get used to seeing Jack Johnson in red

For the most part, I've focused solely on the SCF in my media scans lately. Haven't paid much attention to trade rumors. A2Y's post about the Luongo for Datsyuk rumor and his Spector v. Eklund take got me interested. Holy schnikes! Lyle references a Damien Cox article where he fuels "speculation" that the Canes might be looking to move Jack Johnson for the number two pick that should be Jordan Staal. The reasoning is that the Pens have young stud forwards, but an anemic blueline. How about a Brooks Orpik/Jack Johnson pairing? That would be an ambulance chasing lawyer's dream.

JR might be tired of getting rebuffed by the young Wolverine. He offered the boy multiple chances to join a playoff-bound team and Johnson opted to stick around for a few more keggers.

This becomes especially critical if, as I believe, several of the Canes' veteran blue line retire after this season. I think Wesley almost certainly retires if we win the series. Hedican is a possibility too.

JR's track record on drafting blueliners hasn't been stellar. Tanabe, Knyazev, Danny Richmond. Also seems like Johnson is in no hurry to get to the show. I think JR might be in fool me three times...mode. Moving ahead the Canes should have Babchuk, Commodore, Hutchinson, Wallin, AWard and Kaberle in the fold. Maybe Hedican, probably not Wes. I'm worried about losing scoring power if Weight, Recchi and Whitney go. Not sure how strong Cole will come back or if Vasicek will ever be the same.

Whitney signed a two year deal, so he'll be back next season. Cole will be fine - that guy is chomping at the bit to get back.

Chris-Good luck with the CBC thing. I hope it finds its way to youtube. Don't wear stripes-it looks crappy on TV!

I'm so torn about this. Jack Johnson seems way more interested in his career as a singer than he is in playing hockey.

Sorry. That was a stupid joke.

Anyway, he really does seem more interested in partying like it's 1999. Anyone who sincerely believes he's at Ann Arbor to get an education should go talk to the Acid Queen about a bridge she has for sale in New Jersey.

JJ has already told us "no thanks" for 2006-07 because there's gonna be "like, 50 totally awesome keggers at the Alpha Beta house". I'm not sure that I like his approach.

I liked picking Johnson at the time, but that was assuming that he'd dive right in. Knowing now the difficulty that we've already had with him, I wish we'd picked Gilbert Brule instead.

I'm not convinced that AHutch will be all that good. Sure, he impressed me at times, and his injury hampered his development, but I don't really see it. I like Babs, though. I think he'll blossom into a high-quality blue liner.

There really is a lot of defensemen "in the system", and it might seem silly to give Johnson up, but every indication is that Jordan should be as good as Eric. If we can pull it off, I'd say go for it. If not, we'll wait for Johnson to quit doing keg stands and date raping sorority girls.

I think the sticking point might be the Pens hesitation to take a kid who just might make them wait for three years. JJ would probably love to play with Crosby again-that's one in the might just happen column. I wouldn't blame the Canes for making this kind of mood. They have a playoff caliber team now. Who knows what the squad will look like in three years.

move-not mood.

The wrench in this plan is quite possibly Shero honoring any deal offers that Craig Patrick had been working on.

This trade rumor has been in the hopper for quite a while now, so, the x factor is that the Pens could go in an entirely different direction with a new front office.

I'll be wearing my jersey, so no worries about the stripes issue. :-)

We'll see how it pans out. At this point, I trust JR to make the right decision - he's earned that trust this season alone.

I'm glad you piped in Mike. I was wondering how this rumor was looking from your perspective.
